Ask David

David was born in Sauk Centre Minnesota in 1989. David never really was into fishing until he turned 10 years old when he met Daryl Schmiesser whom was a neighbor and happened to be a tournament bass fisherman. Over the years, Daryl and David became good friends and under Daryl's teachings, David learned how to fish for bass.

At the age of 13, Daryl invited David to compete with him in a tuesday night league. Here, David met many anglers who over time, developed a friendship with most of them. The first Tuesday Night League, that they competed in Daryl and David took 3rd place on Little Birch. Since that time, they have won five events with numerous times in the money.

When David was 15 years old he bought a used entry level bass boat which he still is using to compete in today. A 2002 Nitro 640LX powered by a 2003 Yamaha 90hp outboard was a good starting place for the young angler to get a start in the Falcon Individual's ( now the North Country Opens ). David has since then upgraded the electronics with a Lowrance LMS 334c on the console and a Vexilar FL-18 Flasher in the front. Plans to add a second Lowrance LMS unit is now being considered. Also, the trolling motor was upgraded from a MinnKota Powerdrive 65lb thrust to a MinnKota All-Terrain 55lb thrust. In 2007, the All-Terrain was replaced with a 70lb thrust MinnKota Edge.

When the BassMaster Weekend Series started a division in Minnesota, David decided to give it a shot in 2007 and entered as a co-angler on LeHomme Dieu and the Whitefish Chain. To say the least, David took 49th at LeHomme Dieu which was a major disappointment to him. However, David regained confidence at the Whitefish Chain where he placed 17th. After that event, he decided to fish all of the Weekend Series events the following year.

2008 was a year that would become the best year the young angler would have to date. Just out of high school, David fished two circuits, the BassMaster Weekend Series and the North Country Opens. At the season opening event of the Weekend Series, David was able to improve his performance on LeHomme Dieu by placing 27th. Two weeks later, he would go on to finish with a new career single finish on his home waters of Sauk Lake where he finished 8th. He then carried that momentum into the next Weekend Series event at the Whitefish Chain, where he was paired with good friend Brandon Moore of Swanville. He finished 8th placed and cashed his first check ever as a non-team competitor. The next three events David fell into a slump, 17th at Ida, 33rd at Lake Pokegama, and 40th at Vermillion. However, at the Weekend Series Division 18 Championship on Lake Minnetonka, David bounced back with a 8th place finish and qualified to fish Lake Kentucky. The Minnetonka finish also, gave David enough points to finish in the Co-Anlger of the Year in 17th overall.
